There are limited local bus services serving Staunton from Coleford and Monmouth. The buses stop in the village outside The White Horse about 300 meters from The Coach House. The nearest railway station is Lydney, which is about twenty minutes by taxi or car. The nearest mainline railway stations are Newport and Gloucester, which are about half an hour away by car when the roads are clear.

Access to the Coach House from the lane is through double wrought iron gates, which are normally kept closed, but can (by arrangement) be left open for arriving guests. The gates open onto a gravelled courtyard adjoining The Coach House, which is used both by guests and owners for car parking. There is adequate parking for two guests’ cars. The courtyard is lit by a movement activated security light.
Access to The Coach House is through the front door (76cms wide) to stone flag floors. There is a single step up from the parking area to the front door and there is a removable ramp available to assist wheel chair users. Please tell the owners if you would like the ramp in place. There is a light over the outside of the front door.
Immediately inside the front door is the kitchen, with stairs leading out to the first floor, and a small lobby leading to the downstairs bedroom and the shower room.
The kitchen floor is stone and there are dimmable down-lighters in the ceiling. The fridge/freezer is free standing with the freezer section above the fridge; the microwave oven is above the freezer.
The electric hob is inset into the granite work-surfaces at waist height, with an extractor hood above the hob. The electric oven is inset into the units at low level. There are low level storage units and also more storage units at higher level, above the work surfaces. The sink does not have “disable friendly” taps; the electric kettle is cordless.
This area is open to the kitchen and has an airing cupboard, containing the gas boiler and heating/hot water controls. The timing of the central heating throughout the Coach House is controlled from this cupboard, but each radiator has a thermostatic control. There is hanging space in the lobby for about six coats.
This bedroom is accessed from the lobby through a door (76cms). There is a 4’6” double bed, a built in hanging cupboard, a dressing table and a chest of drawers. There is a solid wood floor. The bedroom is lit by three wall-mounted lights (40 watt light bulbs in each), two bedside lights and a dressing table light.
Ground Floor Bathroom/WC
This is accessed through a door (76cms) and has a WC, a shower (70cms door over a lip of 24cms), and hand basin. The room is lit by three down-lighters and there is a light and shaver socket over the hand basin.
The stairs to the first floor, lead from the front door (adjacent to the kitchen) and consist of six steps, a right angle turn to the left and a further seven steps. There is a stair-lift (maximum weight 137 kgs or 21 stone). The stairs are lit by a lamp with switches at top and bottom of the stairs. The tread of the stairs is wood. On the first floor is the living room (including the dining area), and the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom.
The Living Room
The Living Room is lit by ten dimmable up-lighters (switches at the top of the stairs and by the bedroom door) and four table lamps. The floor is wood with a decorative oriental rug. There are two sofas and two additional easy chairs. There is 32” flat screen television, a DVD system and a Sky Freeview box, giving the ability to watch BBC1, 2, 3 and 4; ITV1, Channel 4 & 5, together with a number of news and other channels, BBC Children’s channels, digital radio stations and other free view channels. There is also a mini hi-fi system with DAB digital radio and CD player. All have remote controls.
The Dining Area has a dining table for four, occasional six, and (on request) an additional leaf can be added to the dining table to give additional space.
The Living Room has a gas-fired mock log burner for additional heating when required and instructions will be given on its use.
There is additional antique furniture and side tables.
The Master Bedroom
The master bedroom leads off the living room (door 76cms), with wooden floor and a decorative oriental rug. The bedroom is lit by five up-lighters, two bedside lights and a lamp on the dressing table.
The bed is 5’ wide; there is a built in hanging cupboard, chest of drawers and dressing table.
The en-suite bathroom (door 76cms) has a WC, hand basin and bath with a shower over.
The Bathroom is tiled both on the floor and on the walls surrounding the bath.
It is lit by four down-lighters and there is a light and shaving socket over the hand basin.
Throughout The Coach House the paint work is off white. Apart from the step at the front door and the flight of stairs to the first floor, there are no other steps.
In the garage area (not for the use of guests for car parking) is a cupboard containing the clothes washer. The tumble dryer is free standing in the garage but guests are encouraged to use the washing line in the garden.
From the courtyard there are steps and a ramp leading to the garden, over part of the sloping lawn (which can be slippery) to the guest’s terrace, where there is a table and six chairs for al fresco dining. Adjacent is a shed for storing the garden furniture and guests’ bicycles.
The owners’ boiler room (access across the gravelled garden and four steps) has a rack available for use by guests to dry outside clothes, shoes and boots.
The owners’ swimming pool and tennis court can, with the permission of the owners, be used by guests at their own risk. Access is over sloping lawns (which can be slippery), some steps and gravel paths. There are no safety rails around the swimming pool and entry to the pool is from the shallow end, by three submerged steps. The pool is about four feet deep at the shallow end and about seven feet in the deep end. Diving in the shallow end is discouraged. The swimming pool is gated but there are no lifeguards.
There are no shops in Staunton but the White Horse has a limited supply of essentials; Coleford, which is three miles away has supermarkets, banks, cash machines and a Post Office; Monmouth, which is three miles in the opposite direction has a wider selection of shops including a Waitrose, Boots and WH Smith.
